This is your forum for showing and talking about work, so please start posting. I should apologise now for the name of the blog, 'Posers' ... hopefully you will think it's a little funny! And also, just because you may find this interesting.... Have you seen this video, of JR, a French street artist, who uses his camera to show the world its true face, by pasting photos of the human face across massive canvases in war torn countries and impoverished communities. Have a look if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.ted.com/talks/jr_s_ted_prize_wish_use_art_to_turn_the_world_inside_out.html

I love TED talks. I love how JR speaks of using the city as a canvas, leaving a mark on society to say "i was here" which i guess is what some of us are trying to do with our photography and our style, putting images out to be recognised by and remembered by. i love the idea of the side walk gallery, i think its something interesting we could do in Melbourne, print our images on really cheap paper, big or even really tiny so audiences had to get up close, theres plenty of empty walls, it would be like postering but with our own images, and lots of different ones. and it wouldnt matter how long they lasted, like JR said there not meant to last forever, you expect wind, rain, graffitti and pee to get on them (lol) but some of his are still up 4 years later. I love the shots of Nuns helping him graffetti.
ReplyDeleteJRS point of people saying people wont pose for you in Palestine or Israel i find interesting because often I find as student photographers we come up with ideas that involve random people and shy away from them because we think people wont do it. But he shows people even in really hardcore situations are willing to pose.
The shot of JR on the back or front of the train is where I would probably draw the line on what I am willing to do. lol
